Australian indie singer-songwriter hannah bahng had Los Angeles feeling seen and yet a little misunderstood. Currently on her 'The Misunderstood Tour,' hannah packed The Fonda Theatre on November 21st. Just when everyone thought they had "the worst night of their lives" last year with hannah's 'The Abysmal Tour,' it was only about to get worse.

After the intimacy and stripped back nature of 'The Abysmal Tour,' 'The Misunderstood Tour' builds in scale, production and venues, matching the evolutionary nature of hannah's sound. hannah's music explores identity, vulnerability and depth of relationships. With tracks like "MISUNDERSTOOD" and "IM ME AGAIN," her latest EP tackles her emotional journey and self reflection. From album to the stage, hannah's raw emotion and powerful vocals rang heavily throughout the venue in a way that was even stronger than anticipated.

The Fonda was overflowing with an audience of all ages, some bringing in signs of support, others decked out in blue to signify her fanbase "BLUES," while others waited in line for their chance to rep the artist by wearing her official merchandise. With three platforms onstage, accompanied by her guitarist Liam Fennell and dummer Puma, hannah entered to stand center stage beneath the glowing lights of Zymmie, her self drawn mascot. Vocals on point, "what never lived" and fan favorite "sweet satin boy," started the night, with hannah picking up her guitar to play out the tracks. You can find me in my feels as I pretend to not understand the lyrics of "what never lived."

Her laid back personality that carries the right amount of swag paired with the emotional punch of her lyrics and sound offer a relaxed and relatable charm. Despite her (self proclaimed) aura point loss in Chicago, I think it's safe to say that she quickly regained them with her stage presence alone. From her stripped down performance of "RIBS (instrumental)," accompanied by only an acoustic guitar, all the way to bringing a fan onstage to work the runway to Rupaul's "Supermodel (You Better Work)," hannah had the crowd immersed into her world all night long.

"Orchid / Flame" and "IM ME AGAIN" stood out within the set, offering more solemn numbers, though still booming with hannah's clear and silky vocals. I may be biased since these are a few of my personal favorites. The multi-instrumentalist took to the piano for several tracks, including "Vertigo" and a cover of Billie Eilish's "WILDFLOWER," while her accompanied vocals pierced through the crowd. hannah bounced around the stage interacting with fans to angst driven and self reflective "MISUNDERSTOOD" before ending the night with debut single "perfect blues."

Riding the waves of hannah's journey, BLUES have been along to support and cheer on the artist as she evolves since her days of YouTube covers to her debut in 2023. As an independent artist within her own label, Bahng Entertainment, hannah continues to have creative control over her work, making her artistry even more personal and evolutionary. Whether you're having relationship problems or scared of dying alone, (Raises hand!) hannah shares in the sentiment, offering "The Misunderstood Tour" as a place to feel misunderstood together.
