The beloved South Korean indie rock band wave to earth mesmerized audiences at their New York City “the pieces tour” stop at Radio City Music Hall on September 29th. Having just released their second studio album, bad pieces in August 2026, the trio of Daniel Kim (vocals and guitar), DonQ (drums), and John Cha (bass) performed songs primarily from their newest album, showcasing their musical evolution and sharing honest reflections on complicated relationships.

The band opened in an intricately designed living room set that welcomed fans into the cozy and dreamlike world of wave to earth. Opening the night with “sing it all again,” it felt as though we were being drawn like moths to a lamp, entranced by the beauty of dim illumination and the soothing vocals and relaxing acoustics. The saxophonist and pianist accompanying the band added a pleasing and complex texture to their songs.

Seeing the members live is a must, as they go beyond the typical concert experience. The synergy between the team is unmatched as they play in harmony while allowing each other to shine individually. It was spectacular to witness Daniel Kim’s robust and explosive guitar solo bring the energy to a soaring high. Equally as impressive was DonQ’s commanding drumming, hitting every beat flawlessly at a blinding speed.

Throughout their set, there were many highlights from their newest album release. “cherry flavoured love inside your heart” was an emotional standout track that delivered especially colorful imagery. Daniel’s soft vocals combined with the message of hope and self-acceptance made for a comforting and memorable experience. “heaven and hell” marks a departure from their usual themes of love and relationships and indie rock style. Blending country folk with soft rock, the song questions the binary of heaven and hell and finds an answer in choosing to look inward with childlike innocence as a guide. It was refreshing to see the band take on new sonic and thematic territory.

wave to earth is no stranger to connecting genuinely with fans. A particularly endearing moment occurred when John Cha proudly revealed that he is married and is a father. He shared a photo of his daughter and remarked that it was as if she was on tour with him. It’s these interactions with fans that demonstrate wave to earth’s friendly and modest attitude and express that no matter their success and growth, they’ll always be grateful for their fans' support.

Towards the end of the set, the Seoul-based artists leaned on fan favorites, including “seasons,” “annie,” and “bad.” The fondness for these songs is as strong as ever, as seen in the passionate and enthusiastic cheers after each song was introduced.

wave to earth sealed the night at an all-time victorious high with one of their most popular tracks of their careers “love.” The show was both novel and familiar, with the band continuing to experiment with their signature indie rock and jazz sound. The ever-evolving artists will only continue to charm audiences with their euphonious melodies as they finish out their North American leg in October and wrap up their world tour in Asia.
