f5ve smashed onto the scene in 2023 with their debut song “Firetruck,” and made waves with K-Pop fans with the cheeky tracks “Lettuce” and “Magic Clock.” Since their debut, they’ve been praised for their production, spearheaded by BloodPop, and their unique aesthetic that appeals to both J-Pop and Hype Pop fans. Their Subculture performance took place just two weeks after the release of their first album SEQUENCE 01, which features all of their singles as well as collaborations with Kesha and A. G. Cook.

The energy at Catch One was electric, with DJs umru, Underscores, and N2 setting the vibe with sets packed to the brim with K and J-Pop remixes. f5ve took the stage at 1AM in the Underground room to a raucous crowd that was so full it bled to outside of the venue.

f5ve’s set crash landed with “UFO” and was jam-packed with performances of every song off SEQUENCE 01. The members were decked out in actual Y2k, with outfits featuring piano-patterned dresses, graphic tees, and polka-dot scarves. f5ve’s dance and performance skills are unmatched with each of the five members Sayaka, Kaede, Ruri, Miyuu, and Rui bringing their own flair to each song. hi-5’s (fandom) energy didn’t waver throughout the 30-minute set. Every single audience member at Subculture’s energy was tireless from start to finish.

The playthrough of the album finished with “Underground,” a fitting track about escapism. Each of the members greeted fans at the barricade for individual interactions, while taking hi-5’s phones and dancing with fans. Their set officially came to a close with a reprise of “UFO,” remixed by Dorian Electra and Count Baldor - Dorian even coming out to surprise fans.

f5ve’s Subculture performance was just the start for the girl group - this month f5ve will be homecoming to Japan for a show in Tokyo and returning to the US for a set at LadyLand festival in Brooklyn, NYC. 202f5ve has served as a launch pad for f5ve, skyrocketing them into the pop scene and making their mark in endless sub-fandoms. Needless to say, their first US performance was an unforgettable party that fans will never forget.

Till their return to the states make sure to check out SEQUENCE 01 and stay tuned for what f5ve has in store.
