Just in time for their seventh anniversary, the largely successful K-Pop girl group i-dle are set to release their eighth EP, We Are. This release comes almost a year after the release of their previous mini album, I Sway, and months after their contract renewal with Cube Entertainment, making it a highly anticipated comeback.

On May 2nd, fans across the world noticed that the group they had come to know as "(G)i-dle" was starting to change their display name on multiple platforms to "i-dle." At first, it was speculated that the change was part of a marketing strategy to promote their upcoming mini album, but the group soon confirmed that the change was permanent. The change was met with mixed reception, while some fans embraced the change as it hinted at the new direction for the group, others felt the silent "G" made the group name memorable. Regardless of how fans personally felt about it, the newly adapted name generated buzz surrounding the comeback.
Members Miyeon (미연), Minnie (민니), Soyeon (소연), Yuqi (우기) and Shuhua (슈화) solidified their rebrand with the release of a special album, We are i-dle, to accompany the upcoming EP. The special album consists of nine re-recordings of title tracks featured in chronological order leading up to 2022’s “Tomboy.” The decision to re-record their old hits paired with their newly formatted moniker emphasized the group's new direction, moving from the past and onto a new stage of their career.

i-dle released the title track “Girlfriend” off their upcoming six track EP and its accompanying music video on May 9th to heavy fanfare. “Girlfriend” is a song about the value of female friendships and how much better they can be than romantic relationships with men. i-dle are known for infusing their songs with cheeky feminist lyrics and this song is no exception. With lyrics like “we'll never be over, let's be together forever” and “your girlfriend is better than a boyfriend,” the song makes us all crave a friendship as special as the ones between the i-dle members. The music video depicts a fun night out with your girlfriends, perfectly matching the track that sounds like it's meant to be listened to during a drive through the city with your friends. The video also debuts Soyeon’s new look, a Mia Farrowesque pixie cut that fans are obsessed with.
We Are will contain six new tracks and is set to release on May 19th at 6PM KST. Pre save the album HERE
