| The pre-release single “REDRED” signals more than just a comeback, it suggests a deliberate reintroduction, establishing the five-member group’s identity.

Get in the truck and hit the streets with a group of friends, headbanging to CORTIS’s new single “REDRED” ahead of their second EP, GREENGREEN. The EP is out May 4, at 6 PM KST, and the group is said to be defining their next move. MARTIN, JAMES, JUHOON, SEONGHYEON, and KEONHO have gained international exposure, entering the Billboard 200 and also surpassing 2 million copies in global sales, marking the highest-selling debut album by a K-pop group on record.
Debuting just last year, the group has already begun promoting and collaborating with companies that align with their vibe. For example, through their partnership with Red Bull, they attended the ‘Red Bull Dance Your Style’ World Final 2025 in Inglewood, California, where they collaborated with dancers and showcased their freestyle skills. Beyond live events, their music has entered film, as their song “Mention Me” was featured on the soundtrack of the American animated film The GOAT, produced by and featuring Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry, which centers on an underdog goat chasing dreams of playing “roarball” in a professional league. In addition to these milestones, the group recently starred in a Vans shoot celebrating the brand’s 60th-anniversary campaign for the ‘Authentic’ shoe. Looking ahead, their schedule continues to expand: this May, they will travel to participate in their first KCON Japan, followed by their debut at Lollapalooza on August 1: marking not only their first major U.S. festival performance, but also their place as the only K-pop boy group on this year’s lineup.

Why Green and Red?
You’re probably wondering about the contrasting colors for CORTIS’s comeback—green and red. When I think of red, I think of stop, and green means go. “I just gotta get it / Watch me go, go, go, go, go…” —sorry, I got carried away there, mentally replaying CORTIS’s previous track “GO” from their COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES EP. Blame the addictive melody.
That same addictive quality carries over in “REDRED,” with a hook that reinforces CORTIS’s distinct sound. Rugged synth lines and a hypnotic, repetitive rhythm drive the track, while visual and performance elements draw from 1990s aerobics, shuffle dance, and tecktonik. The choreography, simple to follow yet unmistakably theirs, like how they established themselves with “GO.” They worked closely with the performance directing team to shape this final choreography.
This single is built on the contrast of a red-and-green motif, symbolizing what CORTIS embraces and what they reject. While “REDRED” captures the tension between who they are and who they aren’t, GREENGREEN, their upcoming EP, seems to lean into growth, grounding, and a sense of identity in their post-debut era. Together, these elements signal more than just a concept; they reflect the direction of their sound and the kind of music they want to create right now, which is honest, instinctive, and true to where they are as a group. That is embedded in their very name, an unconventional six-letter form derived from “COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES,” where they are thinking beyond boundaries and remaining self-driven.

The concept of “REDRED” was first introduced by JAMES, with all five members contributing to the creative process of the lyrics, composition, video, and choreography. From their lyrics, it’s evident they’ve been paying attention to the public and fan reactions—known as COER—and are using their music as a way to respond. For example, when the group first debuted, their style leaned into a Y2K-inspired mix of edgy and sporty elements, with sagging pants becoming a defining part of their look—something rarely seen across other K-pop generations. While it quickly stood out, for CORTIS, it’s simply a reflection of how they naturally dress. Still, the members are clearly aware of the attention it draws. In the song, they reference it directly with the lyric “Covering your butt (that’s red-red),” playfully poking fun at their own styling. They also add a lyric mentioning this same topic in “YOUNGCREATORCREW.” That same humor carries into the music video, where, in a brief moment, the members jokingly try to pull down MARTIN’s jeans even further. It’s a small but telling detail: they know people are talking, and instead of resisting it, they turn it into a lighthearted way of owning their image and style.
Recently, CORTIS collaborated on a shared Instagram post about their creative process and broke down some of their lyrics, highlighting the phrase 팔랑귀 (pallang-gwi), which literally translates to “flapping ears” in Korean. It’s used to describe someone who is easily swayed or influenced, and in the song, they repeat “팔랑귀 팔랑귀 (That's red, red)” using the term to call out a “loss of integrity”—something MARTIN himself explained as part of the “red” concept the group pushes against. Lyrics like “Playing it safe (that’s red-red)” and “Faking being cool (that’s red-red)” directly call out behaviors rooted in fear or not being genuine—avoiding risks, seeking constant validation, and performing a version of “cool” for others. CORTIS position themselves in opposition to those habits and mindsets.

The visuals in CORTIS’s “REDRED” music video capture the group’s playful, rambunctious energy, with the beat driving its fast-paced rhythm. Low-angle shots and quick movements and cuts follow the members through everyday settings like a neighborhood Korean BBQ spot, a vintage shop, and an arcade, while retro, game-like synthesizer sounds echo in the background, mimicking the feel of arcade game effects. These ordinary moments are heightened by the group’s vibrant presence and acting, turning simple scenes into something dynamic and expressive. As with their previous work, the members first created a self-produced version of the video to map out everything, and many of those original ideas carried through to the final video, preserving their hands-on creative direction.
Looking back at their first EP, COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES, CORTIS introduced their attitude and distinct sense of color as they stepped into the K-pop industry. Tracks like “FaSHioN” carried a bold, style-driven edge with trap beats, while “JoyRide” revealed a more laid-back, happy state of mind, highlighting the group’s balance between confidence and ease. Now, post-debut, the members are refining that identity, showing not just who they were at the start, but what CORTIS stands for in this moment of their lives.
CORTIS’s rambunctious energy is a big part of what makes them so likeable. Their mix of playful, slightly chaotic personalities balanced with a clear sense of creative drive. As James puts it, “Sometimes you’ve just got to stop thinking,” a sentiment the other members quickly echoed with a simple “Just do it.” MARTIN reflected that, “Back then, I had this state of mind where I wanted to look cool. Now I’m just out of that. I think that mindset, as soon as it changed, everything became so…” before the moment turned into a shared conclusion, Juhoon cut to say “the lesson of today,” and Martin finished it off: “Stay silly.” That philosophy captures an important evolution in the group’s identity. Rather than chasing a polished, conventional image, CORTIS is leaning into something more instinctive and genuine. They’re young artists making music on their own terms, with a level of creative involvement that sets them apart from typical K-pop expectations. The group has been carving out its own direction and for many fans, that’s exactly what draws them in, not just the music or visuals, but the personality and drive behind them. There’s something deeply relatable in watching five people figure things out together in real time, embracing who they are while chasing ambitions as performers, and that authenticity makes you want to root for them as they grow.

List of Tracks on the New EP
Six songs form the GREENGREEN EP. “TNT” could possibly be a heavy-hitting opener, living up to its name with an explosive energy that immediately grabs attention, or maybe it will surprise us with a different meaning to the acronym. “REDRED” gives the techno and electronic vibe. The title of the song “ACAI” adds a more personal touch as it has a playful nod to SEONGHYEON’s well-known love for açaí bowls, something fans have often seen him mention in interviews and content. “YOUNGCREATORCREW” (YCC) shifts the focus to the group’s dynamic as creative collaborators, highlighting their identity as self-driven artists. This song houses a raw freestyle sound, which is one of the first tracks from this EP that they performed live in February 2026, surprising COER in the U.S. during their headline appearance at the ‘NBA Crossover Concert Series’ for All-Star Weekend—marking them as the first K-pop act to lead the event—before returning the following day for the NBA All-Star Game halftime show. Rounding out the project, the last two tracks are “Wassup” and “Blue Lips.”
This is only the beginning, and on May 4, CORTIS steps into its next chapter. “GREENGREEN” is a release that COER has been eagerly waiting for. As of April 16, pre-orders have surpassed 2 million copies, while the project has also exceeded 750,000 Spotify pre-saves, landing at No. 3 on Spotify’s April 15 Global Countdown chart. The momentum is already there; now it’s about to unfold.
