If you think of the person in your life that loves the Twilight movie franchise and multiply that obsession by 100, you still won’t meet the level of dedication alt-pop artist Julia Wolf has for the nostalgic media. She even has a tattoo of the logo on her hand, which fits in well with her other ink, Ghost Face and a dagger nearby on her hand and wrist. Her hand may say “Twilight is my drug…” but it’s not for show, she has the public Tumblr and even a curated “forkscore” playlist on Spotify to back it up. She recently told Nylon that she thinks after this tour she could open an exclusive Twilight merchandise museum with all the items she’s been gifted along the way (including a bedazzled copy of the first book.)

If Julia is Twilight’s biggest fan, her own fans feel similarly about her and her music. Before the show started fans in the packed 9:30 Club were chanting “Ju-li-a,” the excitement palpable. In line heading into the venue, a fan who had first discovered Julia when she opened for Machine Gun Kelly’s tour eagerly shared his favorite tracks including “Last Summer,” “Jennifer’s Body,” and told me that there were no skips on her Pressure album.

Before Julia took the stage, Austin-based rock artist Bee Blackwell took the stage with recently released track “The Knife” and unreleased tracks like “Gemini” and “House Party.” We love a feminine energy rock band, with Maria delivering effortlessly cool bass guitar skills alongside Bee. Bee read aloud a sign in the crowd that said it was someone’s birthday and they laughed, sharing that there were more Libras on the stage as well. The set was the perfect vibe for kicking off the show, setting the tone to a crowd filled with nostalgic, grunge fashion.

After a short break, the lights dimmed again and a metric tonne of fog was pumped onto the stage, creating a hazy and dreamy atmosphere that created a real-life blue hour filter in the room. Julia kicked off her set with “Wishbone,” “Kill You Off,” and “Loser” and sang into her mic on top of her unique mic stand, resembling a heavy chain and the top dripping like a black wax candle.

As the fan in line recommended, “Jennifer’s Body” was a can’t miss moment of the concert. Fans scream-sang the lyrics of the pre-chorus and chorus, “Her lips, her thighs / She laughs, I cry / She lives in my mind / And I / I wish I had Jennifer’s body / She eats me alive.” The tongue-in-cheek lyrics make reference to the iconic 2009 Megan Fox film, comparing herself to someone her partner is attracted to. Other moments during the concert that had the crowd singing every word included TikTok famous track “In My Room” and “Girls.” Anyone over the age of 30 can identify with her haunting lyric: “I'm on the wrong-side of thirty / And now I'm starting to worry.”

“Hey, we are independent out here but buying the merch helps” Julia shared with the audience, excited cheers meeting her words as a reply. Julia’s personality is so warm and inviting when she’s interacting with the crowd and you can really tell she loves her job. She smiled almost the entirety of her set, leading fans to wave their arms in the air for “Sunshine State” as a warm yellow light cast across the crowd. Everything from the set design to her all black outfit was unapologetically Julia and everything worked together in perfect harmony with her stunning vocals. Julia’s future is bright and we can only hope that if they ever decide to make a new Twilight film that she would be the first on the production team’s speed dial to create a song for the soundtrack.

You can still catch Bee Blackwell as the opening act through her show in LA on October 25.
